Calendar for 2012 TUYAP Book Fairs
The new year brings new fairs to the literary scene
Held by TUYAP Fair and Exhibition Organization, Inc., in association with the Publishers Association of Turkey, the Adana, Bursa, Izmir, Diyarbakir and Istanbul Book Fairs brought 1,232,000 visitors together with books and their authors. TO be launched in 2012, the Antalya Book Fair will help Tüyap to reach even more avid readers.
The first Book Fair of the year in Adana
The first Book Fair in 2012 will be held at the TUYAP Adana International Fair and Conference Center between January 10 and 15. The 5th Cukurova Book Fair will have 150 publishers and non-governmental organizations as participants and host 50 events including interviews, poetry readings, panel discussions and children’s activities.
A new fair: Antalya Book Fair
Antalya is the new destination for TUYAP book fairs this year. The inaugural fair will be held in association with the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the City of Antalya at the Glass Pyramid Sabanci Congress and Fair Center. 45 publishers will take part in the Antalya Book Fair and more than 30 cultural events will be hosted.
Bursa Book Fair turns 10
First held in March 2003, the Bursa Book Fair prepares to celebrate its 10th year with 220 publishers and NGOs. The main theme of the fair will be “Writing Bursa,” and a large number of cultural events will include interviews and discussions with writers and poets from Bursa on the significance of Bursa for literature in Turkey.
Book Fair goes to Izmir in the spring
Springtime starts for TUYAP Book Fairs in Izmir. The 17th Izmir Book Fair will be held at the Izmir International Fairgrounds between April 14 and 22. 350 publishers and NGOs will take part in the fair and more than 150 cultural events will be held.
Diyarbakir: a journey to the ancient land of the written word
The third Diyarbakir Book Fair will be held at the TUYAP Diyarbakir Fair and Convention Center between May 22 and 27, and the main theme of the fair will be the Journey to the Ancient Land of the Written Word. 100 publshers and NGOs will take part in the fair and 40 events will be held, including interviews, poetry readings, panel discussions and children’s activities.
Istanbul Book Fair: Holland is the Country of Honor
The 31st International Istanbul Book Fair will be held concurrently with the 22nd International Istanbul Art Fair between November 17 and 25 at the TUYAP Fair and Convention Center, Buyukcekmece. The Country of Honor this year will be Holland, and many events on Dutch literature and culture will be held in the International Hall between November 17 and 20. More than 600 domestic and foreign publishers will take part in the Istanbul Book Fair.
